
During September 2009, the lowest average auto insurance quote was $1,855 per year. September’s average represents a 2.8% decrease from the national rate of $1,908 at the start of this year.
According to an Insurance.com RateWatch report, September saw the biggest monthly rate reductions by state in: the District of Columbia (down 9.2%), Rhode Island (down 7.6%), New Hampshire (down 7.5%), Arizona (down 6.4%) and Idaho (down 4.1%).

In contrast, the largest car insurance rate increases were in Vermont (up 8.8%), Utah (up 8%), South Dakota (up 6.3%), Oklahoma (up 4.6%) and Pennsylvania (up 4.5%).
