Dewan W. Gibson is an imperfect bachelor bellowing his life experiences with a raw and beastly tongue in his hilarious memoir The Imperfect Enjoyment. Saturated with remarkable literary poise that at times trickles into bent depravity, Gibson openly embodies the archetypal, post-college American male searching for something, anything that will fulfill his social and relational longings.

In his book, Gibson gets ready to leave Cleveland for the sunny coastline of California, specifically the toasty beach town of San Diego where he plans to soak in the “world of breast implants, beer and beaches.” At the opening of the book, Gibson takes us from a poorly-timed college romance to picking up transient women in the parking lot of a dive bar with his stuttering friend to entering into a convoluted relationship with a complicated Middle Eastern woman. And that’s just the book’s beginning. It gets more and more electric, page by page. Throughout the memoir, Gibson continues to impregnate his prose with quick comedic jabs and clever social judgments, each affording his readers an opportunity to laugh aloud and nod their heads in literary delight.

The Imperfect Enjoyment is an unpredictable journey that bubbles with an unexplainable sense of welcomed gusto. Gibson is a shaman of literary awe, and his memoir is testament to his skills as a gifted wordsmith. He may be imperfect, but we all are. And being imperfect is what makes Gibson the proverbial man!
