DJ AM passed away on August 28, 2009.

Adam Goldstein, known to the world as popular entertainer DJ AM, was found dead in his New York apartment at approximately 5:20 p.m. today. Drug paraphernalia was discovered at the apartment, but it is not yet known if drugs were involved in the death of the 36-year-old. His passing was first reported by TMZ, the entertainment website that broke the story about the death of Michael Jackson in June.

A friend of Goldstein, having not heard from him for several days, went to his apartment and knocked on the door. Receiving no answer, the friend then notified police of their concern for the DJ.

Goldstein was originally a member of Crazy Town, the band responsible for the hit song, "Butterfly." He also dated Nicole Richie at one time.

As DJ AM, he performed for a number of celebrities and appeared on albums by Will Smith and Madonna, among others.

He was seriously injured and hospitalized in September 2008, when a plane he in which he was traveling with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker crashed in South Carolina. Two crew members and two other passengers were killed in the crash.
