Puff pastry can be made at home: that is if you have plenty of time and patience. Or it can be purchased at the frozen section of your local grocery store. All you have to do to use the pastry is defrost it in the refrigerator over night and then use your imagination.

Below are five ways to use puff pastry:

1) Cut defrosted pastry into squares and make a few holes in the squares using a fork. Bake the squares according to the instructions and let them cool. Layer the pastry with yogurt or whipped cream and berries to make Summer Fruit Napoleons.

2) Follow the steps in the first idea, but instead of sweet flavors use savory. You can spread the layers with whipped cream cheese and top with cucumber slices, tomato slices and smoked salmon.

3) This idea comes from my friend Cindy: take a muffin tin and line each hole with puffed pastry. Add your favorite filling, pinch the pastry together to form a little parcel and bake.

4) Use puff pastry to wrap salmon, chicken breasts or beef. Bake in the oven. Your guests and family will be impressed with the gorgeous presentation.

5) Bake the entire puff pastry sheet whole. Let it cool. Layer fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and basil on top of puff pastry as a twist on a pizza idea.
