We welcome Mitchell Ammons, Marketing Director for the Washington Design Center and representative, for the Fall Design House, called Potomac Fever.

Q.: Mitchell, for Home and Living Readers who don’t know you, can you tell them who you are and what you do?

A.
: I am the Marketing Director at The Washington Design Center in DC! The Marketing team is constantly working to promote the Design Center and our 60 luxury showrooms through extraordinary events, educational programs for consumers and designers, bi-monthly newsletters, and much more!

Q.: Where is the Washington Design Center located? It has an interesting history, yes?

A
.: The Washington Design Center is located in the heart of our Nation’s capital at 300 D Street SW.
The Design Center has a unique and interesting history. The building was originally constructed in 1919 as a refrigerated warehouse. In 1982, it was converted to The Washington Design Center and opened for business! We have over 400,000 square feet of space and over 60 wholesale residential, commercial and building product showrooms.

Q.: You are here today to talk about a Fall Design House event, when is it? And can anyone come?

A.: Our “Potomac Fever” Design House will be unveiled on September 25th and will remain open until December 12th! We welcome the public to view the gorgeous house and admission is free! Visitors are welcome Monday through Friday, 9am until 5pm, and Saturdays from 10am until 3pm.

Q.: This event is in concert with a charity project, what is that about?

A.: This fall we are honored to partner with City Arts DC. The mission of City Arts DC is to create and promote high quality community art that enriches and enlivens neighborhoods. City Arts accomplishes its mission by engaging residents in conceiving artworks that reflect neighborhood history and culture; teaching and mentoring talented student artists through paid apprenticeships; and offering community art appreciation and education programs for people of all ages.

The idea of our “Potomac Fever” theme was influenced by our remarkable non-profit partner! Before stepping foot in the Design House, guests should take a few minutes to study the elaborate murals that City Arts students have created. The murals feature all 8 historic districts; guests will truly be amazed!

Q.: Who will be participating in the Fall Design House?
• Beverly Claiborne of Beverly Claiborne Designs
• Lori Ludwick of InDesign LLC
• Christine Hecht Payne of Christine Hecht Payne Interior Design
• Karen Mitrano Snyder of Interiors of Washington, Ltd.
• Brooke Steuart of Brooke Steuart Interiors, LLC
• William and Katherine Tarleton of Tarleton Interiors
• Dana Tydings of Tydings Design, Inc.
Debbie Wiener of Designing Solution

Q.: Can you tell us about some of the special features? What are you especially excited about?

A.
: Aside from the entryway mural created by City Arts, you will also find the students’ paintings and mosaics throughout the Design House in different rooms!
Guests will be stunned by the gorgeous products featured from showrooms throughout the building. Visitors will get a true feel of our DC historic districts with a mix of modern and traditional furnishings, fabrics, lighting, rugs and accessories.

Q.: Where should interested parties begin when they arrive to get the most out of this event?

A.
: Stop by the front desk on the way in. As you make your way to the entrance of the house, enjoy our ‘Wall of Fame”. Glance at each designers’ headshots and biographies, and examine their inspiration boards – an appetizer to the rooms in the house!

Q.: Will there be more information upcoming?

A
.: The Washington Design Center will hold its annual Fall Sample Sale in October! Furniture, Lighting, Rugs and Accessories will be up to 75% off! The sale will be open to the Trade on Thursday, October 8th and Friday, October 9th from 9am until 5pm. The sale will open to the public on Saturday, October 10th from 10am until 3pm. Don’t miss this extraordinary sale!

Q.: Is there anything else you would like to tell Home and Living Readers?

A.
: We hope our “Potomac Fever” Design House leaves you feeling inspired!
