I'm pleased to have Ray Valdez, CEO of Bamboo and Tikis, a Backyard X-Scapes Company which operates from a 65,000 square foot facility in San Diego, CA. They are one of the largest providers of outdoor and backyard related products in the western United States. (Ray Valdez pictured right.)

I have a 100% Organic Moso Bamboo Rug and think the product is terrific. It is durable and beautiful, and these rugs can be used on all types of surfaces including hardwood, carpet, tile and cement floors. I found out that bamboo, unlike traditional hardwoods, is a sustainable resource that can be grown quickly, easily, and without the use of pesticides or heavy fertilizers.

Q.: Can you tell Home and Living Readers a little about your company?

A.: Bamboo and Tikis specializes in functional, eco friendly accents and decorative arts for the home and garden. We specialize in helping clients create peaceful and breathtaking environments with eco friendly and cost effective products and services.

Q.: Where does the bamboo come from?

A.: Our Bamboo products are made from Tonkin cane, which are native to Southeast China.

Q.: What are some of the properties of bamboo that make it a good product?

A.: Although bamboo is considered a woody grass, bamboo is extremely durable, versatile, and its stock has a tensional strength equivalent to Cedar wood. Due to its rapid growth, bamboo is also a highly sustainable resource, which makes building with it eco-friendly. It has also been noted that since Bamboo is an unconventional type of wood, its biological make up contributes to it being termite resistant.

Q.: How are your customers using bamboo in their homes, yards?

A.: We get constant submissions from our customers on the creative and beautiful ways they have used our bamboo for fencing, patio covering, wall trim, tiki bars, creating doors to entry ways, roofing and so much more.

Q.: What is the coolest project made with your bamboo?

A.: We help individuals with custom projects everyday and by far our most popular and fun creations include the Tiki bars and Gazebos. Both of these liven an area and provide a great central area for entertaining.

Q.: You have a lot of other artifacts for sale on your site, will you tell us about them?

A.: We want to provide our customers with a selection of products in which they could piece together to create their great escape in their very own backyard. Our Hawaiian-Polynesian Tiki statues are hand carved, which makes them unique since no two are exactly the same. Everything from our Bamboo poles, matting, borders and Thatch umbrella kits, are selected to deliver authentic quality, and ease in creating that tropical paradise.

Q.: I noticed you have an “Unbeatable Price Guarantee” on your site, what does that mean?

A.: We want our customers to shop with confidence that they are receiving the best quality at the best price. The challenge we issue is this, if you find the same item at a lower price, send us that quote and we’ll beat it! If you already made your purchase within 30 days, we’ll refund the difference.

Q.: Is there anything else you would like to tell Home and Living Readers?

A.: Bamboo and Tikis believes that success comes from building genuine relationships and providing quality at a great price. We help customers tailor their home and garden decorating projects, and encourage an open dialogue to constantly share and support each project.
