Q.: You have a new product, the Masterlock “Window Bar” for consumers; what is it?
A.: The Master Lock Window Bar provides easy, affordable (sells for under $30) and all year round home protection. The Window Bar is an adjustable security device that locks to resist forced entry. It fits most standard windows and sliding doors by easily expanding from 22” to 36”, has a loud, built-in pressure activated 110 decibel alarm and a visual deterrent with the word “Alarm” prominently printed right on the bar. It is battery operated and the long-life battery is included.
Q.: What are some of the properties of Window Bar that make it a good security product?
A.: First, the Window Bar is affordable and very easy to use and install. It can be done in seconds. Second, the Window Bar can be used to secure most standard windows and patio doors so it has the flexibility to be used virtually anywhere in the home. Third, the Window Bar locks in place making forced entry far more difficult and any attempt will activate the 110 dB alarm; notifying occupants and adding precious seconds to react to the situation. And fourth, the Window Bar can be used to monitor a patio door to make sure young children don’t go out unattended – critical if you have a pool.
Q.: How are your customers using Masterlock in their homes?
A.: Since the Master Lock Window Bar is brand new to the market, we haven’t gotten a huge amount of feedback from consumers yet but we know from our own testing that our consumers are always seeking affordable and easy to install means of adding layers of protection to their homes and other dwellings.
Experts agree that adding different levels of security creates a great deterrent to burglars and that’s exactly what the Window Bar accomplishes; whether you are traveling or at home sleeping. We believe that our customers will use the Window Bar to protect their most vulnerable windows and sliding doors first and after they see how easy it is to install, they’ll add it to most of the windows and sliding doors in their home. We also understand that customers are in fact using the window bar on patio doors to be alerted if their child attempts to open the door.
Q.: The price is quite reasonable, care to comment?
A.: In developing the Master Lock Window Bar it was critical to make it both effective and affordable. At $30 or less, we believe we’ve kept the Window Bar within range of virtually anyone who wants another level of protection.
Q.: What other characteristics make this an efficient burglar deterrent?
A.: The Window Bar is an efficient deterrent from burglaries because it is easy to install, flexible in terms of the windows and sliding doors it can protect and it has attributes like a 110 decibel alarm and the word “Alarm” prominently featured. This combination will make people comfortable with purchasing the product, will make it easy on them to install it and thus make them more prone to using it and will make consumers feel secure that the audible alarm and written warning will deliver on the promise of the Window Bar to provide another important level of security for a home or office.
