Serving Foods Buffet Style
Feeding extra guests but don’t have enough sit-down table room? The best alternative is using the help-your-self style of dining with the aid of a buffet service. Simply put, buffet style dining is popular for its flexibility for guests and a blessing for the host, whether for a casual evening with couples or full plate family service at Thanksgiving.
Where
To serve twenty guests, have one food station but consider a separate set-up for drinks or a home bar. You can station a bar in the foyer or even a covered patio to help disburse some of the traffic. For huge parties, a bathtub full of ice can accommodate bottles of liquor or beer. For the family get-together, use a large table in the center of the room, so relatives can “graze” around it. For an especially crowded space, push the table up against the wall and stand near one area to assist. Remember, you can always situate a special dessert table on a kitchen counter, dining room banquet or other console to divert traffic another way, and to be available on guest’s own timetable.
Limited Seating
Children will often welcome the suggestion to gather in their own area so let them sit on a sturdy toy box; on floor pillows with the aid of an ottoman for a dining surface, or even on a one-shelf bookcase that can be laid horizontally on the floor.
