While I was serving in the Gulf War, we had to drive three hours across the desert to a tent in the middle of nowhere to make a ten minute phone call home. I got to call home twice during those seven months. That now seems like WWI era morale building compared to what the military is doing now.
One of my favorite blogs, The Jawa Report links to this story.
“Several thousand miles away from home, a 380th Air Expeditionary Wing Airman was able to witness the birth of his first child live thanks to modern technology.
Senior Airman Daniel Warila, a 380th Expeditionary Maintenance Aerospace Ground Equipment mechanic, welcomed Lucas Daniel Warila into the world thanks to the staff at the Chapman's Activity Center and the webcam capability they provided for the occasion.”
Compelling stuff, read more at the link. Congrats to the Warila family!
