Matthew McConaughey's "Surfer, Dude" Features Sand, Breasts and Willie
The same week that police are pressing charges against a couple of surfers who “protected” actor Matthew McConaughey from the paparazzi, McConaughey’s newest flick has him seeking waves in
“Surfer, Dude” officially opened in
The trailers and the movie’s official web site don’t reveal too much more about the film, except that the Addington character attempts to resist surf commercialism but is eventually overwhelmed by it. Oh yeah – and there’s lots of breasts. (One trailer showed three sets.) And if you're not into boobs, well, there's also Willie Nelson, who --despite his somewhat recent reggae album -- usually doesn't conjure images of surf.
In the movie, Addington wears Greg Noll-like black and white striped shorts and speaks in a stereotypical surfer dude accent. While McConaughey does surf in real life, pro surfer Keith Malloy acted as his stunt double in the waves for the movie.
That the script went through several rewrites might suggest this surf flick will fall flat. And since the main character confronts a wave drought, don’t count on it to feature good waves.
But we’ll see.
