On Sunday, the Chicago Bears will kickoff their regular season against long-standing rivals the Green Bay Packers. While the city turns its full attention to our boys in orange and blue, Bears Care, the philanthropic arm of the organization, wants you to start thinking pink. Back for the second year, the “Real Bears Fans Wear Pink” t-shirt campaign is a way for Bears fans to how their support for the team and for breast cancer awareness.
Bears Care is committed to fighting breast cancer year-round, using its spring gala to raise money for breast and ovarian cancer research. But, they realized the need to also have a fall event or promotion. “We wanted to do something that fans can wrap their arms around when the league and the rest of the country recognizes this cause,” explains Marge Hamm, director of Bears Care.
Fans can purchase the limited-edition t-shirt for $15 throughout the month of September only. When the Bears take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 4, 2009, the organization and the NFL will recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Bears Care hopes that fans will show their support by wearing this t-shirt on gameday, regardless of whether or not they are in attendance at Soldier Field.
Last year's campaign raised over $60,000 for programs and activities supporting breast cancer fighters, survivors, and family members. This year, Bears Care hopes to duplicate and improve upon those figures. Some partner organizations include Sisters Embracing Life, Network of Strength, and a 5-Week Breast Cancer Bootcamp hosted by LivingWell Cancer Resource Center.
The tees are only available only at www.events.org/pink and the minimum order quantity online is 10 shirts so group orders are encouraged. If you have any questions or are interested in placing a large order, please email bearscare@bears.nfl.com.
