Many of the health issues around the world can be addressed or prevented by creating a structured support system strong enough to handle the challenges. That belief is the heart of many of the relief efforts and humanitarian work conducted through UNICEF.
On Saturday, April 4th, more than 325 guests, including UNICEF Ambassador and actress Lucy Liu, attended the second annual Message of Hope gala, hosted by the Midwest Regional Office of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. The event, held at the Hotel Intercontinental raised more than $470,000 and benefited UNICEF’s life-saving Accelerated Child Survival Initiative in sub-Saharan Africa. This program is designed to save and protect the lives of children in developing countries by strengthening their local healthcare systems.
The theme of the gala was ‘Believe in Zero,’ a powerful nod to UNICEF’s mission of reducing the number of children who die every day of preventable causes from 25,000 to zero.
Guests enjoyed a performance by Dance Explosion, and the sounds of Entourage, an eight-piece band which successfully kept the guests dancing all night long. In addition to Liu, attendees also heard remarks from Caryl Stern, President & CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
This event is one of the cornerstones of the Midwest Region's fundraising efforts. Casey Marsh, director of the Midwest Regional Office of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, told guests, “It’s not often that people are offered an opportunity to bring real hope to a child’s life. By supporting tonight’s event, you will help give us the resources to reduce child mortality in many of the most marginalized countries on earth.”
