As we celebrate this Fourth of July holiday with friends, family and neighbors, pick up your "pointy sticks" and knit a few socks or hats to show of your patriotic spirit.  Knitting patriotic items are great for not only this day of celebration, but for Memorial Day, Veteran's Day and as gifts to our military personnel.

This year, why not wear a pair of stylish "American Flag Socks" or a "Patriotic Hat" to your town festivities.  If you're in a little more cooler climate, why not show off your pride by wearing an "American Flag Sweater".  These three projects are perfect for the beginner knitter and is a great way to learn not only how to carry yarn of different colors to create your pattern, but how to read charts for creating patterns.  If you're really ambitious, try out the free pattern of the month from Leisure Arts and Debbie Macomber, and knit the "American Afghan".  This pattern is knitted in a medium weight yarn and the stars are created by using a duplicate stitch.

Whatever you decide to do this Fourth of July, please remember to be safe and  to celebrate this day of our independence and freedom.
