As knitting progresses, knitters find that they have acquired many new skills, techniques and stitch patterns. Knitting is a forever learning fiber art form that gives knitters a continuous desire to strive to create new and fresh designs, to share new tips and ideas with others, to develop into a fiber artist in their on right. As a knitter, you soon become an expert, an instructor and the person in the know at your local yarn shop. A very important way to become even more "in the know" is by gaining a "Master Knitters" certification through The Knitting Guild Association. Arenda Holladay, co-chair of the Master Hand Knitting Committee, has written a very insightful article regarding the Master Hand Knitting Program, "On Your Way to the Masters: By Hand!" This program is given in three levels and you progress at your own pace.
First and foremost, join The Knitting Guild Association . By joining TKGA, you gain a prestige of being an expert knitter, a knitter that can tackle any project, large or small, easy or intricate, a knitter that can design and teach. For an annual subscription of $ 29.00, you are eligible for correspondence knitting courses, eligible to enroll in the masters knitting program, free entry to theKnit and Crochet shows at TKGA conferences, as well as discounts on classes at these events, a subscription to Cast On magazine and access to various patterns, libraries and message boards.
TKGA also reaches out to children crisis through the Precious Pals program, a program that gives comfort to children in crisis by providing a stuffed animals with a knitted outfit. TKGA members join together and provide stuffed animals with hand-knitted outfits that can be presented to local agencies. To participate in this wonderful program, please click here.
