A distressing phone call summons Suzanne from her sweet life in California to return home for a long avoided visit.

Her mother is as controlling as ever. In her attempts to maintain the impression of perfection she has decided to become a widow. That's much more acceptable than being divorced, after all.

Suzanne's dad isn't in on the plan though and things get tricky, what with the ghost sightings and all.

Suzanne tries to come to terms with the concept of honoring her parents while torn between the two. She wants to restore their marriage at the same time she is afraid for her own as she confronts long buried lies.

The characters are well-written, complex and quirky. The story is charming and the lessons are valuable.

Take a trip to Texas this summer. Read Lookin' Back, Texas by Leanna Ellis.
