| My 1991 Camry: keeps on goin' and goin'... |
There’s a new Car Chick in town and she’s rarin’ to go! Ok, you testosterone-filled critics, who think that women know nothing about cars—WRONG! We love ‘em! Some of us might not be that proficient in the language of autotech-ese but gosh, darn, there is no man alive, who can top us when describing, what that “whose-a-ma-doey thing connected to the wired up noisey-maker whatchamacallit” is doing in our cars when it is acting up and needs to be repaired.
I come from a long line of gear heads—father, mother, sister, brother, uncles, aunts, cousins, family dog Wilbur. In fact, when my mom gave birth to me, she had quite a problem pushing me out. I just would not let go of those Matchbox cars in each hand!!! My dad used to love test-driving vehicles in his spare time and would take us all along for the ride. My two siblings and I used to love taking whiffs of brand new car seat upholstery. To this day, I still revel in new car smells, especially the upholstery--STOP IT! I know folks who are weirder whiffers! Daddy was a bonafide, card-carrying, Cadillac-devotee until the day he died, God bless him! He loved every single Caddie he owned so much so, that he named them all—Shirley-Do-No-Wrong, Millie-Quick-Ride, Ethel's-Got-It, Sally-Looks-Good, Patty's-Packin' and Betty-Baby-Girl. There is no denying that I am my daddy’s girl and have fallen into the habit of naming my cars as well. I still own my first new car, a 1991 Toyota Camry DL which I christened Black Cherry but I call her Cherry. Cherry has served me extremely well and believe it or not, in my opinion, was the best model year of the Camry line. Cherry has packed on over 160,000 miles and she still has plenty giddyup left in her!
I almost forgot, yes, I also married a big time gear head and gave birth to a lil’ gear head in the making—OUCH! So the car-lovin’ dynasty in my world continues…. Well, here is your introduction to ‘Car Chick,’ me, and I hope we enjoy a long car-lovin association together!
