Not anymore.
Fragrance lovers (and literary buffs) will enjoy the latest fragrance collection created by Perfumer (and former Chef!) Gérald Ghislain, founder of Les Histoires de Parfums.
Last night I was invited to the exclusive luxurious launch party at one of my favorite NYC stores, Takashimaya. Amid the beautiful 6th floor was a beautifully designed display which showed the perfumes in their box packaging, placed upright to resemble books in a library. There were fragrant Takashimaya designed floral arrangements, flowing Nicolas Feuillatte 1998 champagne and fragrance inspired Hors' Dourves’ like: Bergamot Mozzarella, Geranium Gazpacho, Rose Tartar, and perfumed drinks: White tea and Orange Blossom Martinis and Jasmine Vodka cocktails!
We were also honored to have the chance to meet and talk to Gérald about the line.
He told me that he had a “revelation” while visiting the Perfume Museum of Grasse in France. He decided he wanted to create his own type of perfume “story”, while respecting the proven historic fundamentals of perfume creation (Chypre, woodiness, floral) - through inspirational characters - each fragrance identified by its character’s birth date.
“For the men’s colognes, I chose Jules Verne, Casanova and Sade as my characters because they are a representation of 3 fundamental elements that are important to me: traveling, romantic and erotic. They were each chosen because of their unusual personalities.” says Ghislain.
“For the women's perfumes, I followed my instincts and the image I had had of notable, powerful women that had fascinating personalities such as Mata Hari (an obvious choice because of her mysteriousness and oriental beauty), Eugenie de Montijo, and Colette.”

After talking about the line he gave me let me sample of all twelve of the fragrances in the collection that were artfully arranged. Among my favorites:
1826 (Fragrance Family: Ambre Sensuel)
1969 (Fragrance Family: Oriental Gourmand)
Noir Patchouli (Fragrance Family: Chpyre Boise) * This is unisex!
