Simplicity 2508

This week’s pattern pick is Simplicity 2508.

Why it works: This fitted and flattering coat is part of Simplicity’s “Inspired by Project Runway” pattern line. It pays homage to the upcoming premier of season six of Project Runway, which begins this Thursday, August 20 at 10:00pm on the Lifetime Network. It offers the opportunity to design your own coat by including multiple sleeve, collar and length options.

Why you’ll love it: This multi-sized pattern offers two US size ranges: 4-6-8-10-12 and 14-16-18-20-22. The pattern includes a “sketch sheet” to help you design your own style. Line drawings of the various options allow you to mix and match style “additions” before you cut it out.

Some fabrics to consider: As shown on the envelope, wide wale corduroy is a perfect choice for the short jacket. In addition to corduroy, other bottom-weight fabrics, such as twill and denims will make a great fall/early winter jacket. Wools and wool-blends are hitting the stores right now so you can get a head start before the weather turns cool.

Other options: Don’t discount looking through the home-dec department of your local fabric store – houndstooth or toile-printed heavy cottons could make a fun and fashionable coat. Tone-on-tone damasks and brocades can be found there, too.
