Pick a blog and start reading!

I can easily get lost in a day of sewing. With head to the cutting table, I rarely look up and before I know it, it’s “What’s for dinner, Mum?”. But I can just as easily get lost in a day of reading about sewing. Hopping happily from blog to blog, I sew vicariously in others’ studios. I covet their stashes and admire their creativity.

When I found the big list of sewing blogs, I was hooked. I can spend hours going from one to the next and the next and the next... And, of course, each blog has its own list of interesting links, making the chain almost endless. If you have your own sewing blog, you can add it there as well.

Part of what I enjoy is seeing more than just sewing. Creative types always have an eye for the clever, the curious and the colorful. I am as inspired by photos of growing pumpkins and strawberry tarts as I am photos of the perfect ironing station or ingenious fabric storage systems.

So, while summer’s still with us, pour yourself a glass of lemonade, bring your laptop out of the studio and up onto the deck. Get lost for a little while and have a blast.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

  • allsorts: I am inspired by Jenny B’s brilliant use of color and can see my not-here-yet “dream studio” dressed up in red and turquoise.
  • Sew Retro: I secretly want to sew myself a “June Cleaver” style, summery cotton dress. This blog has inspired me to start my pattern search.
  • Sew Chic: A prolific seamstress with really great ideas – check out her fantastic pattern weights.
  • Angry Chicken: Amy Karol’s blog is just full of color and fun and her mention of Rustic Fruit Desserts made my mouth water.
  • Vintage Fern: Crafty fun and flowery fabrics are a feast for the eyes.

I’d love to hear about some of your favorites...post as a “comment” below.
