Connect to your beef producer---buy organic grassfed!

Pretend you’re on the fence about whether to lay out the extra bucks it takes to put organic grassfed beef onto your family’s dinner plate. The rugged economy may have made that decision for you, but personal experience tells me that tight-beltening times like these force us to re-evaluate what’s important and valuable. Junking the junk from your shopping trips so you can eat healthier is one solution.

As much as we’d all like to buy only top-of-the-line for every purchase, it’s just not a reality for most of us. My aunt and uncle were perfect examples of identifying, then buying, what was most valuable to them. While aunt stayed at home with their four kids, unc ran the family biz out of their basement. They didn’t skimp, for example, on maintaining their home, but they did skimp on low-priority things they didn’t feel had lasting value---food wasn't one of them. If organic foods, from beef to desserts, had been available to them, I know for definite-sure their kitchen pantry and fridge would have been well-stocked.

Making the healthiest food choices happens when we better educate ourselves to the value of truly organic foods that wear the green and white USDA seal. They far surpass those labelled 'natural' (there is a difference!).. As we relearn how our food is grown and produced, we’re preferring to connect to the land where the good stuff grows and is raised, nixing conventionally-grown foods that force us to ingest the chemicals used to grow and produce them.

A most encouraging sign for organic-lovers---consumers, producers and growers---are stats just released by the Organic Trade Association. Their surveys show that, as of the end of last year, and despite our present economy, there was a healthy increase in the numbers of folks buying organic foods and non-foods. “Organic products represent value to consumers, who have shown continued resilience in seeking out these products,” said Christine Bushway, OTA’s Executive Director. In case you’re curious, the tally by the end of last year hit nearly the $25 billion mark, a growth of 17.1 percent over the previous year. The figures represent food and non-food purchases. Pretty impressive.

By buying foods produced as nature intended---whether it's fresh produce or fresh meat---we’re headed in the right direction, the one that leads to better health for us, better health for the land. Meat-lovers are handed the opportunity to buy omega-3 and vitamin-rich organic grassfed beef thanks to a few ranchers who have taken all the risks to produce it for us. Organic grassfed beef is the one and only choice for those choosing not to ingest beef coming from unhealthy cattle crammed into confining feedlots and regularly given a smorgasbord of chemicals, along with a diet of grains they’re constitutionally unable to safely process. No beef is better than that beef.
