Not only is October National Apple Month; it’s also breast cancer awareness month…and the two do belong together. Why should you buy organic apples? They’re one of the most chemically-sprayed crops around. To get the really good benefits of eating apples, it’s important to stay away from the pesticides that make it an unhealthy food.
Fall is a favorite season for a lot of us. For me, it’s long walks in crisp air on sun-drenched days…and heading to our local apple orchards. Those trips to the apple orchard have built my personal storehouse of happy memories of driving to the orchard and buying at least a peck of tart apples (Jonathans, our #1 choice). Part of the tradition was that each of my kids and I pick an apple from our new supply and munch it down to the core on the ride home. Those apples disappeared quickly, thus forcing us to make a return trip the following week, and the week after that, and… (Share your favorite apple story!)
