Come out and support the Cholo’s sponsored Waimea Bay Swim this Saturday, July 11th at 9am. The 1.2 mile swim will take place in Waimea Bay. This will be the second swim race in a four part series leading up to the Waikiki Roughwater race held in September.

The entry fee is $35 per event and includes a competitor’s t-shirt, refreshments and age group awards. Late entries are $45 per event and do not guarantee a t-shirt; however, you can sign up on race day.

Goggles, face masks and snorkels are permitted; but fins, hand paddles or other equipment are not allowed. Swim caps are mandatory and will be provided on race day should you forget to bring one with you.

Here is the swim race schedule:
July 11 Cholo’s Waimea Bay Swim: 1.2 miles Waimea Bay
July 25 Jaco Chuns to Waimea Swim: 1.6 miles Chun’s Reef to Waimea Bay
August 8 Haleiwa Surf n Sea North Shore Challenge: 2.3 miles Pipeline to Waimea Bay

If you told me a year ago that I would be promoting a swim race or even participating in swim races at my own will, I would have replied “your nuts.” Yes, I was born in Hawaii. Yes, my siblings are fish. I get ear infections. I enjoy sun-bathing. I never learned how to swim until I embarked into the world of triathlon. And for years, my races “started on the bike.” I did what I needed to survive the swim. I never understood why I was such a slow swimmer; why I lacked “power;” why my stroke was “so nice to the water.”

In January 2009, I decided to focus on my swim. I was introduced to my friend’s swim coach, Chad Seymour. We met once per week for 30-minutes and I noticed a tremendous difference right away. I shaved off five minutes from my half ironman Hawaii swim time and have been improving ever since.

To realize swim gains I always thought “I just need to swim more;” but, Chad has shown me that more is not necessarily better. His coaching style and instruction has allowed me to finally enjoy the swim; to be happy in the water and to be faster in my sport. I highly recommend Chad for all levels.
