The perfect fuel for any workout

Fast and fruity oatmeal bowl

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet plain instant oatmeal
  • 2/3 cup 1% milk
  • 1/8 cup almonds
  • 1 tablespoon low-fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1.5 cups sliced strawberries

Put it all together:

Mix oats and milk in microwave bowl and nuke for 1 - 2 minutes. Top with almonds, yogurt and strawberries.

Nutritional Content:

Makes 1 serving: 363 calories, 14 grams fat, 52 grams carbohydrates, 163 milligrams sodium, 10 grams fiber, 16 grams protein

Boosts:

Ingredients increases energy, boosts stamina during exercise, reduces cholesterol and maintains sugar levels. The complex carbohydrates and soluble fiber combat heart disease, obesity and fatigue.

Stay away from flavored, sweetened oatmeal as its flavor is usually due to added sugar. Purchase the plain original varieties and spice them up by adding your own fruit.

Oatmeal can also be used to beef up burgers or meatloaf (add 1/2 cup of oats for every pound of meat) or mix oats with breadcrumbs to make a healthier coating for fish or chicken.

Toast oats in a 350 degree F oven for 10 minutes and toss them into a trail mix of nuts and dried fruit for a quick and tasty treat. Blend 3/4 cup of oats into a smoothie to add fiber, flavor and texture.
