'57 Oldsmobile ad shows it complementing a lifestyle of modern architecture and kidney shaped pools.

Taschen's new book, 100 Years of Automotive Ads, may well be the most comprehensive such compilation ever published. Its lavish color spreads, choronlogical displays of rare and beautiful print ads and informative timeline lift this volume to a level beyond others that have been published on the subject.

Each decade is introduced with a double paged spread.

The usual Taschen attention to quality reproduction is on display here, as well as their imaginative approach as exemplified by the timeline that puts these brilliant ads in context.

A disclaimer is in order. Taschen will publish my book (working title is Cartopia) about experimental, show cars and concept cars of the 20th Century, sometime in early 2010.
