Parade participants in front of the stately Adolphus Hotel

Everyone loves a parade and tomorrow downtown Dallas hosts it's own. The Neiman Marcus Adolphus Children's Parade has all the necessary ingredients: dozens of costumed characters, high school marching bands, drill teams, equestrian units (including one from Medeival Times - men in tights!), decorated floats and special appearances such as an antique bicycle group and an in-line skate club.

Bleacher seating is sold out, but the real fun of parade watching is finding the perfect spot along the route to spread out a blanket and watch in leisure. Don't forget to bring a Thermos of hot chocolate and pockets of  parade snacks.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 6 at the corner of Austin and Commerce and winds it way down Commerce to Harwood, through City Hall Plaza and ends on Akard. You can download a route map here.

Of course, you could beat the crowds and make it a fabulous overnight experience by spending Friday night at the beautiful Adolphus Hotel. Check in, take an evening walk to see downtown Dallas lit up for the holidays then back to the hotel to enjoy its ornate Christmas decorations and people watching in the lobby. Sleep in a first class room, wake up, order room service then stroll out the front door to see the parade.
