Here are a few links to recent news stories involving sexual abuse and rape cases right here at home. All of these news stories come from the Seattle Times and were published in THE LAST WEEK!
My intention here is not to frighten anyone but to bring to light a very real local issue. Sexual violence is rampant and needs to be addressed. Northwesterners are not new to bringing about social change--we're all gung-ho when it comes to canvas totes at the market and the Pride parade on Broadway. Its time we start paying attention to another equally important issue that has taken a back seat in local movements. Unless we start paying attention to this, start talking to our neighbors and lawmakers about it, and making it a local issue, it will continue to occur right under our noses. Over half of these articles involve sexual abuse of a child.
