.Just the other night I decided to check out Street Car Charlie’s. I must have walked past the place 100 times or more but never had the inclination to go inside. It’s in the “Gaybor” district and right across the street from M/C Films on 15th and 8th. "Charlie's" opened a little over a year ago and is by all accounts doing very well.
Now I’m a pretty open minded individual and have friends on both teams. Last night, in fact, they were calling me a “Metrosexual”. I’d heard the term before but never thought much about it. So I hit the Wikipdedia to see if I fit the bill. Well, maybe, sort of. Oh Kay. And if you see Kay let her know I’ve been looking for her, will you puh leaze.
But, I digress; St. Car Charlie's is by most accounts a pretty gay place. And I mean that in the most positive sense, using the official age old definition of the word. There is a very diverse crowd of every combination of the GLBT(S) population. The comfort level for anyone, though, is high and the drinks and food are, well, fabulous.
Ryan, Shane, Ray and Anthony are among the best bartenders I’ve encountered. The dear boys have great attitudes and quick wits. Their Mojitos and Cosmopolitans cannot be beat. Happy hour prices are very reasonable. $3.50 for a tall Mojito kept me sitting at the bar until I had to find a couch. The digs at Charlie’s are very nice. Lots of open space and comfortable seating for your meal is de rigeur. Service is first class.
The food; simply scrumptious. The Prime Rib is melt in your mouth delicious. Their menu has a very nice selection of other tasty treats from burgers to Ahi. The Ahi is on my list of favorites and is reasonably priced at about $22. Check their website for more details and a complete menu.
Thursday nights bring out the karaoke boys and girls. With a $5000 prize in the offing the competition is stiff. Not because of the guy standing next to them either. Carlos and Paddy put on a great show and the crowd generally goes wild. So hey babe, take a walk on the wild side, see how the other half hangs.
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo.
