Gold Dust Lounge, San FranciscoIf you ever find yourself thirsty in the middle of Union Square, there is a place where you can escape from the shopping frenzy and quench your thirst. Gold Dust Lounge is located on Powell and Geary. Gold Dust is open for business seven days a week from 7:00 AM until 2:00 AM. There is never a cover and there is no dress code.

Drinking on a budget? Drink specials are offered here everyday until 8:30 PM, which include: Irish Coffee, champagne and Extra Large Margaritas for only $2.95! Gold Dust even offers Absinthe service and has a wide selection of liquors and beers on tap to choose from.

The Gold Dust was established here in San Francisco in 1933. It has since become a popular San Francisco watering hole and landmark. This is a cash only bar, but there is an ATM located onsite. A house band plays live music here after 9:00 PM, six nights a week.

What makes the Gold Dust one of my favorite bars in the city is the crowd it attracts and the bartenders who work here. All of the bartenders here are very personable and witty. This is one of the few bars where I don’t have a “favorite” bartender because I love them all equally. The crowd here is a mix of locals and tourists. Yes, at times the Gold Dust can feel like a tourist spot because of all of the tourists that come to drink here, but it’s a great spot for people watching. Retail people who work in the area drink here. People who live in the area work here. People visiting San Francisco from all over the world drink here.

It’s hard to believe that in the middle of all of the hectic shopping and sightseeing that goes down in Union Square, there is a super cool place where one can escape from it all and enjoy a refreshing adult beverage.

Gold Dust Lounge is located at 247 Powell Street, between Geary Street and O'Farrell Street.

Hours of Operation: Seven Days a Week 7:00 AM to 2:00 AM
