Top 5 Dry Skin Fixers, Naturally
Between forced, dry air and whipping wind, our skin can really take a beating in the colder months. Here are our favorite fixers that will help keep skin hydrated all winter long.
-
Humidifier: Heaters make air super dry which, in turn, sucks moisture right out of your skin. To combat, put much needed moisture back into the air by using a humidifier. Target has a selection that includes cute animal shapes for kids.
-
Body Scrubs: When dry, dead skin cells begin to accumulate, your face and body will loose its summer glossiness quickly. Use a bi-weekly body scrub to slough of cells and get your glow back. We're huge fans of St. Ives Apricot Scrub products; for the job they do and the low cost.
-
The 'ol Glove 'n Sock Trick: First, after you shower, put on a thick moisturizer with a shea butter base (The Organic Shea Butter Company sells organic, raw, unrefined butters for a low price that you can personalize by adding your favorite essential oils). Step 2; cover hands and feet with gloves and socks to keep moisture in. The longer you can keep them on, the better. We suggest overnight.
-
Water: Cut out the caffeinated coffees and sugary sodas, which deplete your skin of vital nutrients, and opt to chug water instead. Aside from hydrating your skin from the inside out, it will also help flush your body which reduces signs of acne and fights off illness. Really though... need we say more on this topic anyway?
-
Vitamin A & E: This potent combo provides natural retinol which repairs summer sun damage while E helps skin fight free radicals and prevents further havoc. We like Eminence's Couperose-C serum; perfect for dry, oily, and sensitive skin types thanks to a mix of organic heavy hitters like peppermint (which helps flush pores), lavender (to sooth), and Ester C (a natural blend of Vitamin C that helps correct sun spots).
