It's official, Seattle: fall has, well, fallen upon us. Don't fret though, because autumn is the one time of year you can wear outrageous and impractical things that only keep you vaguely warm; it's not so cold that you actually need a coat, but it's cool enough that you can justify, say, a faux-fur vest.
Enter American Eagle. You all know how I feel about the brand as of late. They've upped the ante in the last few seasons and released some very fashion-forward pieces, and this fall is no exception. Check out this look and tell me you're not seeing stars.
I know, right? Faux-fur, shrunken flannel, and baggy chinos! It's like 1990s Seattle only better. That's why everyone in King County (and beyond) must invest now.
Okay, maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself. Invest if you're capable of pulling of a truly rock-n-roll look without batting an eyelash; donning a fur vest takes a boatload of confidence, and you really can't flinch or the whole look will fall apart. Feeling gutsy enough to do it? Keep the rest of your outfit pretty simple; you don't want your friends to call you out Tim-Gunn-style ("That's a whole lotta look..."). a solid black or white tank or tee on top, some skinnies, and some hot shoes (i.e. what I'm wearing right now) will do the trick for a normal evening out. When you're ready to turn up the volume, swap those skinnies for liquid leggings or put in a black minidress. Want to look more apres-ski than apres-concert? Try a black turtleneck and you'll give off that just-back-from-Aspen vibe.
Definite no-no's include brown tops with this look. Donning a brown tank or tee with a faux-coyote fur tends to look a little cave-woman, so keep it to your most neutral neutrals and call it a day.
The vest is available in select American Eagle stores, but the downtown shop at 6th and Pike is one of the lucky few to stock it. Check it out this weekend!
