Sometimes we forget that the Fourth of July is a day that stands for something. Yes it's about independence, but it's also meant to celebrate family, togetherness, good fortune, and faith. These are the things that were fought for over 200 years ago: the right to the unified, unadultered celebration of our American family. They are principles that Michael, Avery, and Nadia Cole are blessed to sing about.
Three years ago their mother was hit by a drunk driver and was in a coma for eight months. The siblings, now 16, 13, and 9, would sing by her hospital bedside, hoping that their voices would get a response out of their mother. Their mother is now alive, and the trio now goes by the name Voices of Glory. They were recently featured on America's Got Talent, which has desperately been trying to find the American answer to the Susan Boyle phenomenon in the UK. Suffice it to say, they've found their deserving stars in this singing group.
So as we all celebrate the Fourth, we should take a break from our margaritas, barbeques, and baseball games to bear witness to a celebration of life, love, and raw American talent. For some July 4th emotional fireworks, here is "God Bless America," sung by Voices of Glory.
