Camping out among the wildlife takes on a whole new meaning at the Denver Zoo. The zoo offers a variety of kids-only and family overnight adventures that provide campers with an up-close look at the nocturnal activities of the zoo's residents.
On Valentines Day, Drew attended one of the kids-only events, which was open to kids ages 7-12 only. He had a blast touring the zoo at night, meeting lizards and other creatures, and making valentines for the zoo animals -- and we got a much-needed parents night out. The $60 cost ($55 for zoo members) included dinner, snacks, and breakfast. Although it was chilly outside, the kids were nice and warm as they slept inside one of the zoo's education buildings.
Although the actual sleeping for all kids-only and family bunk with the beasts events has traditionally been indoors, this summer the zoo will offer a number of Bunk with the Beasts CampOUTS. After an evening filled with a private after-hours tour of the zoo, a picnic dinner on zoo grounds, like animal encounters, and campfire stories and treats, campers will conclude their evening by sleeping under the stars in the zoo's special safari tents. CampOUTS are open to families with kids ages 6-15 and will cost $65 per child ($55 per adult). The price includes dinner, campfire treats, breakfast, and a souvenir. Dates for the family CampOUTS will be released later this spring and will be posted on the Family Adventures Examiner page when they become available.
