If you use the MTA New York City subway system on the weekends, then hang on tight straphangers, there are going to major disruptions on almost the entire system starting today.
17 out 19 lines will be under some sort of construction. The MTA is doing a repair blitz on the entire system and supposedly needs to do this work before the cold winter weather kicks in. When the cold sets in it makes the work nearly impossible to complete.
Your subway will either not be running, will miss stops, have limited service, run express only or will force you on to shuttle buses at some point. You are advised to plan tons of extra time for your trip.
Also, you cannot really count on anyone to guide or help you, a large chunk of station agent positions have been eliminated because of the automated ticket machines.
You can sign up for updates from the MTA via email or text, also, you can follow on Twitter.
No matter what line you use, you will be affected!! This is a necessary evil to ensure the system is safe.
