If you are heading down to Washington DC for July 4th festivities be prepared for some possible extra delays if you plan on using the city metro system.

The Red Line was the scene of a deadly accident last week when a train rear ended another train causing the striking train to collapse. Ongoing tests are checking to see if the automatic computer system that regulates train movements, signals and circuits is up to par. So far it seems that the circuits are okay, with the exception of the circuit at the crash scene which did not spot a train. Also the majority of the older cars are being repositioned in the middle of train sets with sturdier newer cars on the ends.

Since this is ongoing NTSB investigation "Red Line trains are operating in manual mode at a top speed of 35 miles per hour." (myfoxdc.com). If the investigation is not wrapped up by the holiday weekend then trains will be delayed.

Sadly this week funerals have begun for victims, hopefully the steps taken will ensure safety over the holiday with the increased passenger crush.
