Well, the town does have the word 'kill' in its name. The Ft Hood shootings by a deranged army major who also happened to be a Muslim was not the first mass killing in the otherwise little known central Texas town of Killeen. In October, 1991, George Jo Hennard drove his pick up truck through the plate glass window of Lubys restaurant in Killeen, Texas and proceeded to shoot and kill 23 people and wounding another 20. That was to be Americas worst mass shooting until the one a few years back at Virginia Tech. Maybe it's the 6 degrees of seperation thing but Virginia Tech was also a school attended for a time by, Nadal Malik Hasan. It's a small world after all.
Yes, I do believe that Nadal is just another nut and not a die hard Muslim extremist. Time will tell if I am wrong since it appears that Hasan is awake and talking. Yes, he is a Muslim and he did appear to have words lately about his religion, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan but was also quite freaked out about going to Iraq: he was scheduled to be deployed there soon. That entry to war and a general life of being unloved (he seemed not to be married or have a girlfriend) and generally feeling as if he was an outcast (it can't be easy being a Muslim in Texas). He was allegedly being harrassed for being a Muslim and combined with his feelings of loathing and maybe he just got tired of being a shrink and hearing the constant moanings of soldiers who were tired of endless war. George Jo Hennard was nuts and felt that area of Texas was against him.
Last year, we had yet another loser go crazy and kill in America. The santa killer, Bruce Pardo. In central California, Pardo, having lost his job and his wife who was seeking more money, lost it, dressed as santa and during Christmas, went to his in-laws who were having a party. Pardo/Santa, knocked on the door and when it was opened by a young girl, Bruce opened up too, with his two guns blazing. Killing most of his in-laws, this yuletide outlaw went on to burn the house down, nothing was left by daybreak including Pardo, who escaped the area and planet earth; he killed himself.
I know Hasan may have sought female companionship in the form of those 72 virgins, who await all who will kill in the name of a distorted version of Islam. I could have told him it's not worth it anyway, I've had one virgin in my life and it was a nightmare! No, I think Hasan felt like his life was going nowhere and the immediate threat of going to Iraq was too much and he lost it. As weird as it is in current day America, we have untold numbers of people on the brink and who will go out by taking others with them.
This week, John Mohammad is due to be given a lethal injection because of his lunacy as the D.C. sniper. He should be given the electric chair. This coward who hid in a car while he and his cohort nutcase sidekick, Lee Boyd Malvo, shot and killed innocent people, now doesn't want to die. I guess he'll miss that delectable prison food. His appeals seem to be exhausted just like most of us are tired of the endless nuts who kill because their life sucks. I like the idea that Mohammed is getting death just 7 years after his killings. Why more can't be put to death that quick is a wonder but they should die, sooner than later, if obviously guilty. Nadal Malik Hasan has is own demons and he may possibly never get death. Regardless of his achievements: being a major and a psychiatrist had no bearing on his self worth. In the end, I do think it was that self loathing more than any demonic alligiance to typical extremist terrorism. Hasan is just another American loser, losing it and wanting to take his anger out on others. Unfortunately for us and some future victims, other human time bombs walk among us all and are out there, ticking and waiting to go off.
