2 June 1886 Grover Cleveland – First U.S. President to marry in White House
6 June 1944 D-Day
9 June 1732 Oglethorpe granted Royal Charter for Georgia
10 June 1776 Continental Congress appoints committee to write the Declaration of Independence (And you thought committees didn’t get much done!)
12 June 1776 Virginia adopts the Declaration of Rights written by George Mason. (It became a model for the Bill of Rights with freedom of the press and religion.)
13 June 1777 Lafayette arrives in America
14 June 1789 Bastille Day in France (Drink a toast to Lafayette!)
14 June 1777 Flag Day Continental Congress approved stars & stripes flag.
15 June 1864 Robert E. Lee’s home becomes Arlington Cemetery. (If you missed visiting on Memorial Day, this would be a good day to go.)
15 June 1836 Arkansas becomes a state.
20 June 1863 West Virginia separates and becomes a state.
21 June 1788 New Hampshire becomes the 9th state to ratify the Constitution so it goes into effect.
24 June 1675 King Philip’s War started in Massachusetts (Colonists vs Indians)
25 June 1876Battle of Little Big Horn. (Custer & men killed at Little Big Horn)
25 June 1788 Virginia becomes the 10th state
29 June 1854 Gadsden Purchase including Arizona and New Mexico from Mexico for $10 million
