There are so many possible wedding settings in the lovely historic homes and plantations in the area surrounding Washington, D.C. Here are just a few more.
The Belmont Estate
The Belmont Estate overlooking the Rapahannock River is a gracious setting for an elegant wedding. The Georgian style house was built sometime in the late 1700s, but the exact date is not known. Many changes have been made over the years, and the house has a rich history. It survived the Civil War because the owner at that time was a Union sympathizer, and the Union Army occupied the town of Falmouth where it is located.
The house was purchased by the artist Gari Melchers in 1916 for his country home, and he added studio space, remodeled, furnished with extensive antiques and art work, and improved the gardens. The pavilion, summer house and gardens have extensive river views.
The Mount Vernon Inn at Mount Vernon
The Mount Vernon Inn offers a wedding setting next to the historic home of George Washington. A sunken garden and elegant brick and slate outdoor courtyard with a white tent is a new location for ceremonies. A bridal staircase is the lovely setting for photographs, and the walkway for the wedding party and guests to move from the Verandah Dining Room into the garden.
Oatlands Plantation
Oatlands historic mansion with its formal terraced gardens near Leesburg, Virginia provides the opportunity to have a wedding at a National Historic Landmark. While the wedding photographs are being taken, guests can enjoy the garden or visit the mansion. A tent is provided for dinner and dancing.
Oatlands Plantation was founded in 1798 and has been a plantation, a mill, a vineyard, grown wheat, sheep, and was an elegant country estate during the 20th Century. The federal style mansion was originally built in 1804, but improvements and additions were added soon afterwards. This would be a lovely setting for that very special wedding.
