For the last several years the eco-conscious movement has been gaining more and more traction. With the height of the economic downturn, we also saw this trend slowing just a bit as people started having other things to worry about and focus on. However, this trend is in fact still growing and will not soon be going out of style. Models and celebrities alike are raising awareness and doing something to help make a difference. Model Gisele Bundchen has started a blog that is in both Portuguese and English (giselebundchenblog.blogspot.com. Topics discussed on this blog range from the problem that large amounts of concrete are creating for the growth and health of bigger cities, to the carbon dioxide counter in New York.
Stella McCartney continues to be a pillar of the green movement. She has continued to create collections with organic materials, does not use leather or fur, and is constantly searching for eco-friendly materials to incorporate across each of her lines.
Jenny Hwa, winner of the Eileen Fisher Business Grant for Women Entrepreneurs, has created organic clothing line Loyale Clothing. The spring 2009 collection is inspired by California Bomemia, with fiendly florals and fun ruffles. Here you can find a cotton bikini or dress for a casual summer day. Her goal is to be able to give people the opportunity to change the world simply by getting dressed. Addittionally, part of the proceeds go to Green Corps, a college program that trains students on how to run environmental campaigns.
