OK, it was a messy game with what seemed like hundreds of lead changes and dozens of errors, but when the lights went down at PNC Park last night, the Cubs were the victors. And that, my friends, is all that matters.
Well, actually, it's not all that matters. Not with a team like this one that makes history with every game it plays. With this win against the Pirates, the Cubs secured their 9th straight series win. It is the first time the Cubs have acheived this feat since they won 10 in a row in 1907.
Also notable last night was the performance from Geovany Soto. Geo was the only starter from Monday's game not to have a hit, but he came up huge last night, knocking in 7 RBIs on 3 hits. That's the thing with this team though, isn't it? Help can come from anywhere. Every player, on any given night, has the opportunity to play the hero.
I've said it countless times already this season and the more I watch this team, the more I'm convinced I'm right: This is the best Cubs team I've ever seen. Even in a game as ugly as this one was at times (Zambrano had one of his worst starts of the season) you can still see how strong and how talented this team is.
Pay attention guys. It just keeps getting better and better.
