Months ago, DC released the "I am Batman" image in anticipation of "Battle for the Cowl" and the "New Era of Batman" (now known as "Batman Reborn"). It left many fans guessing and speculating. Now that we're starting month two of "Batman Reborn", let's go over what we know so far.

Batman with the staff

I think it's safe to say that this was suppose to be Tim Drake Wayne since he donned the blue with yellow oval batsuit during "Battle for the Cowl".

Harley

She is ironically placed by a motorcycle and near a Joker card. Aside from her role in "Gotham City Sirens", I'm not sure what else to deduce from her presence here.

Alfred in combat

Perhaps this is symbolizing him going into the field as leader of the Outsiders?

Batman

Widely assumed to be Dick from the start, especially since he isn't represented anywhere else on this image.

Memorial case

This one speaks for itself.

Two-Face Batman

Very puzzling. He is also in front of a marked version of the giant penny.

Batman with guns

Widely assumed to be Jason Todd from the start, and once again our guesses were correct.

Dead body

Perhaps this is yet another story that hasn't been told.

Batwoman

She is holding a magnifying glass, perhaps to signify her starring role in "Detective Comics".

Batman and son

The person standing with Damian looks like Bruce, but looking closer you can see bandages on his leg. Hush still looks like Bruce Wayne. Could he and Damian be forming a partnership as shown in "Streets of Gotham"?

Regarding the image, Dan Didio and Newsarama had this chat yesterday,

NRAMA: Looking back to the Battle for the Cowl teaser image that was released a while back, a reader pointed out that...

DD: That we were making it up as we went along? (laughs)

NRAMA: Not exactly, but rather that not all of the images have been explained in the stories to date. Were some ideas dropped, or was the teaser larger in scope?

DD: The title of that poster was “I am Batman,” not “Battle for the Cowl.” It said it begins in Battle for the Cowl. We’re only in our first month for the direction of the Batman books, so we’re going to be seeing a lot of things that were set up in Battle for the Cowl playing out over the next few months. That was the goal – it wasn’t just to tease the three months of Cowl, but rather to se the direction for the new line of Batman books.

NRAMA: Any particular images that people should be looking out for?

DD: I always liked the father/son image with Bruce Wayne and Damian – I think that’s very heartwarming. I get very upset that the crate broke when they dropped it, and that hand fell out- that’s just shoddy business. And I’m very interested as to seeing what Harley is going to be up to and why she’s holding a gun.

And for my question this time – let’s keep it dealing with Batman. By this point, we’ve seen nearly all the Batman books roll out – which things seem to be popping and exciting you most?

--

So it looks like the story of the Two-Faced Batman and the Wayne Enterprise corpse are yet to be told. Stay tuned.
