Celebrate your dog on August 26th.

Did you know August 26th is National Dog Day? It’s a pet-centric day in which you can celebrate your four-legged friend. How do you do it? Here’s how. Just:

1) Set up a play date. Who is your dog’s best canine friend? Ask this dog’s owner to meet up with you in the park - preferably a dog park.

2) Wash all of his bedding, toys and eating equipment (bowls/fountains). Sanitize everything with hot water, so any germs, fleas and harmful elements are off of it.

3) Buy your dog a green toy. Make sure it’s one that he can manipulate easy and play with for hours. (Balls are good choices.)

4) Walk your dog a long a new route. Make sure it’s one in which he can sightsee and smell new (pleasant) smells. All of the aroma and scenery will open up your dog's senses.

5) Donate money to your local ASPCA. (Visit ASPCA.org) They need your help. The work of this group in the canine world is well-known nationwide and it’s people like you who keep it going with your hard earned money.

6) Play a game with your dog. Be sure it’s the one he’s always trying to get you to play. Do it for as long as you can stand it and then follow it up with a big dose of praise.

7) Get your dog a manicure. When’s the last time he’s had his nails snipped and shaped? Do it your self and make it a special moment or take him into a groomer. It’ll be one way you can pamper him.

8) Check your dog’s collar. Can you stick two fingers through it? If not, buy him a new one. A bigger collar will be more comfortable. As a result, he’ll have more energy and a better quality of life.

9) Appreciate your dog through kind words and pats all day. Remember, he’s probably the one person in your life who likes you for YOU. So cherish him.

See something you can do to celebrate National Dog Day? If not, think of something on your own. Don’t let this day pass by without showing your canine friend how much you care.
