Plan on dressing your dog up for Halloween? If so, avoid the following 3 pitfalls. They are ones that can cause harm to your pet and make his holiday an uncomfortable one.

Pitfall #1 - Long Tassels

Tassels on a Halloween costume will tempt your dog in two different ways. He will either want to eat them or wrap himself in them. Either way, it can result in suffocation, and, as a result, death.

Pitfall #2 - Ill-fitted Clothing

Don’t force your dog into an ill-fitted costume for Halloween. Tight costumes will cut off your dog’s circulation and extremely loose costumes will trip him up. So select one that fits just right. If you’re unsure on how to suit up your dog, seek the help of a friend or store clerk that is handy with a measuring tape.

Pitfall #3 -  Hats with Rubber Strings

Rubber strings are often unconformable to a dog. They can rub against his skin in a way that causes irritation or cuts into it leaving a mark. So, opt for a Halloween costume with a hat that can be tied with a cloth string. It will be just as spectacular without all of the ill effects of a rubber one.

These three pitfalls are the ones that most pet owners fall into on Halloween. Don’t be one of them. Help your dog enjoy the day by keeping him safe and comfortable just as you would a child.  For more info on Halloween Safety for your dog, read Halloween Safety for Dogs.
