This week has been a difficult one in America because of the spiraling economy. Lehman Brothers, one of the world’s biggest investment banks, closed its doors causing shivers to run down the spines of many people. Now, everyone knows that they must carefully manage their money in order to avoid financial ruin. As a result, people are looking for ways to tighten up their budget and one big way to do it is to save money on dog products.
If you do a running tally of what you spend on a regular basis for dog products, you might be surprised at the figure. In 2005, dog owners alone spent $36.3 billion on products for their pooches. So you can only imagine what the figure must be today. However, you can reduce the number by doing three simple things.
* Don’t waste any food. You know how much your dog does and doesn’t eat. So buy him enough food for the week. Then, if he doesn’t eat it all, don’t waste it. Store what you can for future consumption. It will help reduce your grocery bill.
* Take over the grooming. Learn how to properly manicure your dog. Bathe him. File his nails. Trim his hair. By doing this, you’ll save big bucks on dog grooming fees. Also, you’ll get closer to your dog and be able to notice (early on) if he is suffering from some type of skin infection or disease.
* Cut back on buying toys. Yes. Everyone knows your dog is your baby, so you spoil him. However, dogs are often like children. They have a favorite toy and the rest of the stuff (toys) gets neglected and pushed to the side. Keep this in mind and only buy your dog a toy when he’s bored with his old ones or has worn them out. It will successfully cut down on your entertainment bill.
Basically, the motto you should follow is “want not - waste not”. Only buy the necessities for you dog and don’t let a need to overcompensate, spoil or compete make you buy products your dog doesn’t need. Remember, it’s you he really wants and not all of that other junk.
