If traditional Western medicine is not curing your dog’s ailments, you may want to seek help from afar. Eastern medicinal practices originating out of China, Japan and India like acupressure, massage and acupuncture can heal many ailments your dog is suffering from ranging from stress to skeletal problems. Here’s a summary of each:

Acupressure is the application of pressure to various body points in order to increase qi (pronounced “chi”). Qi is the life force that moves throughout the body. So channeling it brings healing to a dog. Specifically, acupressure often reduces muscle spasms in dogs and balances out their petrochemicals. It’s like giving them a huge dose of a multi-vitamin.

Massage is a form of physical therapy that involves the kneading or rolling of soft tissue on the body in order to promote health. Massage therapy helps dogs because it increases blood and lymph circulation, reduces stress and strengthens weak muscles. As a result, dogs that receive regular massage therapy have better balance and strength.

Acupuncture is the application of tiny needles to different parts of the body to address qi (see definition under “Acupressure”). The manipulation of qi is a way to heal injuries, diseases and other body malfunctions. Acupuncture is often used on dogs to heal neurological disorders, skin diseases, reproductive problems and nervous system malfunctions. It is believe to work well on these types of problems in a dog because of the release of endorphins through the manipulation of pressure points.

These three Eastern practices are worth a try if traditional medicine cannot heal your dog. Just be sure that the doctor you choose is certified and highly recommended by others. Then watch as your dog’s qi brings him back to health.
