A young driver backed over a fire hydrant in the Park & Shop center in Concord on Tuesday evening. The accident caused a huge shower of water to flood part of the lot at the corner of Market Street and Willow Pass Road.
Witnesses who felt bad for the young driver noted that anyone could have done the same thing. The hydrant, located between Mimi's Cafe and the newly opened Chuck E. Cheese restaurant had no cement poles or other barrier to prevent the break.
Firefighters initially weren't able to locate the shut off valve for the hydrant, trying to block the water with a garbage container. Security crews shut off the center's outside water supply. Once the water receded firefighters were able to find and shut off the valve.
