As I write this a Bronx school is attempting to return to normal after a school teacher barracaded himself in a classroom.  He retreated to this post after claiming to have placed a bomb in the library.  That claimed has been determined to be false.  The school building actually houses 3 schools, The new Millennium Business Academy Middle School,  Junior High 145, and the Urban Science Academy.  The suspect was an employeed ot the Business Academy Middle School.

As reported by the NY Times,

The Police Department dispatched officers, hostage negotiators and bomb squad technicians to the scene, after the teacher, evidently angry about being reassigned because of a disciplinary proceeding, made the threat, the authorities said. The teacher, a union chapter chairman at the school, barricaded himself inside a computer lab, but surrendered to the authorities at around 11:15 a.m.

The teacher was angry because he had been disciplined due to imposing corporal punishment on a student. The story also notes that Mr. Garabitos makes $100,049 a year.

What I find far more fascinating than the story at hand are the comments from the general public.  Some blame the stress teachers are under and the inability to chastize students.  Others call the teacher overpaid and others call him savvy for justifying disability retirement due to mental issues.  Few commented on the trauma on the kids.

What do you think?
