Victor Valley school district in California has cut the jobs of 181 teachers including music teachers, physical education teachers, spanish teachers, and teachers of other elective courses and teachers of some core courses as well. Seventeen principals and assistant principals also lost their jobs.
In addition to loseing school funded arts, students are also likely to see their student teacher ration nearly double. I don't see how this can bode well for students.
In all,
More than 10,100 teachers will see pink slips in their mailboxes over the next few days as districts up and down California meet a Saturday deadline to warn staff of anticipated layoffs due to the state's budget crisis.
I understand that money is tight and that cuts need to be made in California Government, but such a move that would so negatively affect school children is sure to handicapp the state for generations.
Perhaps this is the state's way of promoting homeschooling.
