When thinking about what qualities would make a school perfect, I always imagine a digital environment where everyone is free to come and go as they please.  After all what is the point of being in school if you have no intention of learning.

Yes, I realize this isn't exactly feasible due to child welfare laws and what-not.

This blog however at The Principalspage.com  blog has an exhaustive list of items that would make a school perfect.  Some of these items are certainly thrown in for fun such as dodge ball and no school on the first day of Spring, but most of these ideas are really good.

My favorites are

  • Art and Music Class every day
  • All employees on 1 year contracts
  • Required reading for teachers and students
  • Extra pay for new ideas and innovations including teachers and students
  • Mandatory tutoring (older students teaching younger students)

My least favorite are

  • Being required to be on two sports teams (That's it)  A non athletic kid such as I was an my son are should have other options.
  • Teachers would teach to the state test (Why don't we just kill the tests and have kids write intelligent essays... except for math.)

The least feasible ones are:

  • Donuts on Friday (especially if there is going to be a 4 day week)
  • Every classroom and office would have a pet (can you imagine?)

By the way, a 4-day week that runs from 7-5 is on the list.

What, in your estimation would make a perfect school?
