Laguna Beach kicked off its annual summer art extravaganza last Friday with the first of three major fairs, the Sawdust Art Festival. Until August 31, families, art aficionados and music lovers are spoiled for choice with the three art festivals Laguna has to offer. For the first time this year, visitors can experience these major outings for one low price with a Passport to the Arts purchase.
Passport to the Arts:: For only $19, visitors receive unlimited admission all summer long to these three major festivals where they’ll enjoy access to works by more than 500 artists, 300 hands-on art workshops, dozens of special events, a wide array of eateries and the always valuable one-time all-day free parking pass.
Sawdust Art Festival: Focusing on artists from Laguna Beach and set in a sheltered eucalyptus grove, this homegrown festival features hourly glass blowing demonstrations, live entertainment, complimentary art activities for children and adults, three cafes and a saloon. Festival Dates: June 26 to August 30, 2009.
Festival of Arts:: Calling itself California’s Premier Fine Art Show, this art event is staged in Laguna Canyon near the ocean. Truly fine art, this rigorously juried show represents a complete spectrum of art media. This is the perfect place to find affordable and unique works of art for the home or office setting. Art-A-Fair features docent-led art tours, nightly musical events and hand-on art demonstrations. Check for special youth art education days. Festival Dates: July 5 to August 31, 2009.
Art-A-Fair:. This is Laguna Beach’s only international art festival. As a showcase for both well-known and emerging talent, it features 125 juried artists and master craftspeople whose theme is: “See the world through an artist’s eyes.” Artist demonstrations, free hands-on workshops and scheduled live entertainment add to festivities of this international event located in a pastoral setting. Festival Dates: July 26 to August 30, 2009
Remember all the festivals are within close proximity of each other and near downtown Laguna Beach. The Passport to the Arts pass is one of the best art bargains in the country and is offered as a collaborative effort with the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau and the city of Laguna Beach
The Laguna Beach Passport to the Arts is on sale at any of the festival box offices. by telephone at (949) 497-0521 or on the festival website, www.LagunaBeachPassport.com
In addition to this fabulous lineup of festivals, Laguna Beach also hosts the world-famous Pageant of the Masters, a theatrical celebration of the art of tableaux vivants often described as "living pictures." Look for a complete description of the 2009 Pageant in my next Laguna article.
