Meat consumption has been linked to heart disease and cancer. Here is another vegetarian advantage: meat consumers have increased diabetic risk.
A recent review of 12 studies was published in the journal Diabetologia. The researchers came to these conclusions (considering the people who ate the most meat and processed meats):
People who eat meat have a 21% increased risk of developing diabetes, and
People who eat processed meat have a 41% increased risk of developing diabetes.
Most health professionals agree that both red meat and processed meat are linked to chronic disease. A source of empty calories, animal protein, saturated fat, cholesterol, and carcinogens, meats should be restricted in the diet. How long will it be until the word gets out that chicken may be just as harmful as beef? Or that turkey is not a health food?
